Max is a California State Arts Scholar who received his BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA at Columbia University, where he was awarded the Faculty Selects prize for writing and nominated for a BAFTA Student Award. His work is often rooted in phenomenology and spotlights outcasts that revel in fringes and subcultures.
His films have screened at international and Oscar qualifying festivals including SXSW Sydney, Palm Springs ShortFest, Nashville, Frameline, Atlanta, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, IFF Boston, and on NoBudge and PBS. He is a Reykjavík Talent Lab alum and BendFilm: Basecamp fellow.
His fiction has appeared in publications including Forever Magazine, The New Review, Bruiser, Animal Blood, Burial Magazine, and Stimulant, among others.
His debut feature film Eating the Ocean is currently in development.
